Weyes Blood at Mohawk (SXSW 2022)

April 4, 2022

Friday March 18th, 1 am. Everyone was visibly tired after a week of running around Austin.

Titanic Rising is a record that sucker-punched me. I ordered the vinyl without listening to a song and within the first 10 seconds, I had to sit down and put my phone away.

The only way I can describe this album is as one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. It’s in a category of its own. It’s one of few records that has the ability to take everything off my mind. And it’s not an easy task.

Weyes Blood started playing alone with her guitar, and it felt like time stopped. Impossible task during a week where there is so much noise and stimulation coming from every direction.

Just like when I listen to Titanic Rising, my mind completely cleared. No band could play loud enough outside to distract anyone in the room.

I never thought standing in silence listening to music could feel so intimate.
